December 23, 2024: National Farmers Day
Contents
"National Farmers' Day", also known as Kisan Divas, is an essential day dedicated to recognising the hard work and invaluable contributions of farmers. Celebrated annually on December 23, National Farmers Day honours the efforts of farmers who play a critical role in ensuring food security and sustaining the economy. The day is not just about acknowledging their contributions but also about addressing the challenges faced by the farming community and advocating for better conditions and support. The day holds special significance because it coincides with the birth anniversary of India's 5th Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, a champion for farmers' rights and welfare. His leadership and dedication to agriculture reforms have made him a prominent figure in India’s history. The history of National Farmers Day dates back to 2001, when the Government of India declared December 23 as a special day to honor farmers. As with every year, the event is expected to feature various activities such as speeches, agricultural exhibitions, and community gatherings that highlight the challenges and successes of the farming community. National Farmers Day highlights the issues farmers face, such as insufficient support, poor infrastructure, and climate change challenges. It also serves to bring awareness to the need for policies that empower farmers and ensure their livelihoods are sustainable. The theme for 2024 is 'Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience'. “Farmers are the backbone of the country.” – Unknown Thanks -------------------------- P.K.
